Solid Carbide End Mill vs Carbide Tipped End Mills & Inserts
A tipped end mill typically refers to a tool where the cutting edge is a separate material from the body. The cutting edge is brazed to the tool body. Where a solid carbide end mill with have a body and cutting edge made out of one piece of material, a carbide tipped end mill will have cutting edges made of carbide brazed onto the end mills body. Additionally, carbide insert tooling is very popular. One advantage of carbide tipped end mills and inserts is that the cutting edge may easily be replaced without replacement of the more expensive end mill body. Carbide end mills are commonly sold in sets. While purchase and replacement of indiviudal mills is available, by purchasing a set of carbide end mills the cost is lower because of the quantity purchased.
